In Kuopio conservatory it is possible to start rhythmic music studies in basic education in music. Applicants of all ages are warmly welcome to our yearly student selection events. In rhythm music studies, the students get acquainted with diverse styles of pop, rock and jazz music through both individual and group lessons.
It is possible to study rhythmic music in Kuopio, Siilinjärvi, Juankoski, Nilsiä and Lapinlahti. When starting rhythmic music studies in basic education in music, the students choose a suitable instrument. The instrument selection varies depending on the teaching location. In Kuopio, it is possible to study electric guitar, electric bass, piano, drums, voice and different wind instruments. Equality and accessibility are taken into consideration in both student selection and teaching methods, which gives our students the possibility to create their own individual musical paths.
Making music together with others is an important part of rhythmic music studies and we aim at offering this possibility for every student from the very start. Group lessons may include playing or singing in a band or a vocal group, exploring music theory, listening to music, improvising or music theory related activities depending on the group.
Basic studies in rhythmic music include both individual and group lessons. Studies can be started from the scratch, or it is possible to continue studies started elsewhere. Studies proceed from one level to another but the musical path is created together with the students taking their interests into account. Instrumental studies are based on individual lessons that include playing as well as listening and some music theory related activities. The actual music theory studies are incorporated in the group lessons in basic studies (beginner and intermediate levels). Home practice is a vital part of the studies and our teachers give guidance in planning it. During the studies we emphasize creating a positive relationship with music and support self-expression through it. The studies support creative thinking, interactive skills and making music independently. After completing basic studies in music the students can move on to advanced studies in music.
Advanced studies in music widen the skills learned in basic studies. Students can choose to emphasize certain aspects, such as instrumental studies, music technology, composition or ensemble playing depending on their own interests. Advanced studies act as a good basis for continuing studies further in the music field.
